Research & perspective

Cultural Architecture

What makes cultural life possible—and what allows it to continue?

Cultural Architecture is Justin Gilanyi’s developing research framework, informed by practice and encounters across regions. It examines spaces, supporting systems, and human relationships: who shapes cultural activity, who supports it, and what remains between events.

Riyadh and Los Angeles are two points in a wider inquiry spanning artist-led spaces, everyday gathering places, patronage, and institutional partnerships. WhereArt.Works connects that inquiry to projects and public dialogue.

Questions from the field

Places people already use

How do shops, cafés, malls, and informal gathering places become settings for making and encountering art?

People making things possible

What can we learn from artists who build residencies, families who sustain cultural spaces, and patrons who support new work?

What carries forward

How do knowledge, collections, and relationships move between places and generations? What support remains after an exhibition closes?
